Make the Most of Your Stay in Madrid

Travelling to Madrid can be an unforgettable experience. Madrid is the capital of the country and along with Barcelona is the most important city in Spain. Most tourists from abroad will arrive at Madrid Barajas Airport, which is the most important airport in Spain with all conveniences you can expect from a modern airport, especially in the brand new terminal which is exclusively reserved to flight from the nations airline, Iberia.

Obviously you can also arrive by bus, train or car and this will largely depend on where you are coming from. From the airport it is not hard to get into the city centre, as Madrid offers a modern subway network which connects the city from north to south and from east to west.

Madrid is know for its rich culture and has something to offer to everybody, whether you would like to visit the cultural attractions of the city, go shopping or enjoy the famous nightlife of Madrid. If you like art Madrid offers some of the most important museums in the World, with works of art from many different artists. Along with the museums, you can enjoy the traditional Spanish arts of bull-fighting. If you like music and dancing you should visit one of the many tablaos in Madrid. Flamenco shows are mostly aimed at tourists, but there are still places where you can enjoy a spontaneous flamenco session.

Madrid is a city full of interesting places to visit and many of the most important attractions in Madrid are historical buildings and museums. The Royal Palace is also located in Madrid, and visitors can walk around it in guided tours. Madrid is also home to Real Madrid, one of the most famous soccer teams in the World. If you enjoy sports do not forget to visit the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. There are interesting excursions and day trips to Toledo, Salamanca or Segovia, cities with plenty of culture and traditions. Car rental is recommended if you would like to discover these cities on your own.

If you want to hire a car at Madrid airport or in the city centre, there are several car rental car companies who operate at Madrid Barajas airport. There are 4 terminal buildings at Madrid airport, in many cases it is important to advise the car hire company on what flight you are travelling in order to allocate your booking to the correct terminal building. The airport concessionaires in Madrid are Avis, Europcar, Hertz and National Atesa, but if you do not need to collect the vehicle at the airport occasionally you can find some very good deals with other car hire companies in the city centre as car hire is very competitive in Spain.

Like in any mayor city it is always a good idea to not leave anything of value in your hire car. Just take it with you or put anything you do have to leave out of sight. A public car park can be a safer alternative than leaving your car in the street but check the prices before you enter, it may end up very expensive. If your hotel has got a car park check the prices with the reception, sometimes you may be better of using the public transport rather than your rental car.
